The Spotlight this month is one of our Board Members, David Mathis, President and CEO of MartinFed, a federal solutions company headquartered in Huntsville, AL.
MartinFed focuses on Cybersecurity, Advanced IT, Engineering Services, and Training. With employees in 10 states, MartinFed works closely with the DOD, DOJ, DOE, NASA, and other federal agencies to solve complex problems. Their employees are empowered to find solutions and understand their roles contribute to the safety and security of our nation.
Before joining the MartinFed team, David began his professional career in banking focusing on commercial and industrial lending. He worked with government contracting in Huntsville, Tampa, Orlando, and the National Capital Region for 25 years until 2017, when he left banking and invested in MartinFed.
MartinFed has been recognized in the Inc5000 for 5 years, has been listed on the Washington Technology Fast 50, but most importantly to David, they have been certified as a Great Place to Work for 5 years in a row. David also serves on the ServisFirst Huntsville Advisory Board, our SDC Board, and the Huntsville Marine and Port Authority. He is also active in the youth program at First United Methodist Church in Huntsville and is a member of the Committee of 100 as well as C12, which is a Christian CEO peer group that focuses on business, family, and discipleship.
Here are some fun facts about David: • He is originally from Marshall County, Alabama and has been in Huntsville since 1997. He said he “can’t imagine being anywhere else!” • David has been married to his wife, Karen, for 27 years. Karen follows her passion by volunteering for A New Leash on Life and has been in pet rescue for more than 10 years. • David and Karen have five children. Mason, the oldest, is married to Lib and works for a financial tech firm. Anna is a junior at Auburn University, Millie is a sophomore at Birmingham Southern College and plays soccer there, while Ally is a freshman at Auburn University, and Keke, the youngest, is a freshman at Drake State. • David’s favorite thing to do in his free time is traveling with his family, having dinners with his wife, golfing, and doing anything outdoors. • David has been on the SDC Board for 15 years. As many of you know, SDC is designated by the SBA as an Accredited Lender and has been consistently ranked as SBA’s leading provider of fixed asset loans for the state of Alabama. David says, “I am proud to have been a part of advancing commercial lending in the southeast, helping more than 1,000 businesses and helping to create more than 22,000 jobs. It has been an honor to serve on the board and to see the growth SDC has experienced over the years.”
